Petition to Protect Prime Agricultural Farmland
I have launched a petition to protect prime agricultural farmland from being developed into solar farms.
By supporting my Private Member’s Bill, we can protect our best farmland, strengthen food security, and challenge Labour’s plans to cover productive agricultural land with large-scale solar farms.
Solar energy has its place - on the roofs on warehouses, barns and car parks, not prime agricultural land.
Our best agricultural land (graded 1, 2, and 3a) should be used to grow food. The surge in energy infrastructure planning applications in my constituency and across rural England, highlights the urgent need for this Bill to safeguard our countryside.
This is happening across the English countryside, and this is why I opposes Labour’s plans to concrete over rural Britain.
This Bill is the response to rural residents' calls for better protection of the land we use to produce food.
