Meeting residents and staff at a constituency domestic violence refuge

Victoria Atkins, Member of Parliament for Louth and Horncastle, has visited a refuge in the constituency for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

Victoria, who in January announced a major new draft Domestic Abuse bill, made the visit to speak to staff and residents about their experiences and how the refuge provides essential support.

Commenting, Victoria said, β€œIt was a moving experience to speak to some of the residents about what they have been through, and to discuss with them how Domestic Abuse has impacted on their lives. I am absolutely committed to shining a light on domestic abuse to ensure this hidden crime does not remain in the shadows.”

β€œI was impressed by the quality of the facilities and the dedication of the wonderful staff who work tirelessly to provide support to the residents in rebuilding their lives in a place of safety. Thank you for everything you do, and thank you to everyone who spoke to me, and made the visit a positive one.”
